“Fun” Fundraising Events Scheduled for 2010
- "Raining Cats and Dogs" Wine tasting event - April 11, 2010
- “PoochFest” (Boyne City Veterans Park) - July 17, 2010
- “Leader Of The Pack” (Boyne City Veterans Park) - September 4, 2010
The third year for a wine tasting and auction event, it is the first year in this location. "Cava's" of Bay Harbor is hosting the event with fantastic hors d'oeuvres and one complimentary glass of wine. We will enjoy the lovely voice and talent of Robin Lee Berry as she has agreed to perform for the event (lucky us!). Please come and join us from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. You are sure to have fun!
Poochfest is an educational and entertainment event. Entrants participate in games with their dogs, enjoy demonstrations of canine prowess, shop a variety of pet related vendors and compete for prizes in a wide variety of “contests” such as “Smartest Dog”, “Best Vocal Performance”, "Best Frisbee Catcher", etc. Over the last four years participation from the community has increased steadily so that 2009, even though the weather did not cooperate, saw nearly 500 participants.
Leader of The Pack will be in its fourth year in 2010. This year we will be joined by classic and muscle cars as we "cruise" for a scenic two hour ride following the annual "Labor Day Car Show" event hosted by the Boyne City Rotary Club. The cruise starts at 3:30 p.m. from Veterans Park and returns to the park for a barbeque chicken dinner, awards and live music. Please call us for pre-registration forms and information or stop by the humane society (the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce also has forms and information at their offices or on the web at www.boynechamber.com).
Previously listed, the wiener dog races for the dachsunds of the area and their owners was scheduled for September 25th. Due to extenuating circumstances we are having to cancel this years event but it isn't going away completely! Look for a brand new fun event sometime in 2011. Until then, condition those dogs and be ready to run for the roses (or the biscuits, stuff toy ...).
Details and registrations for all events can be had by phoning, emailing or checking out the links on our home page as we get closer to the actual events!
PS: Even though all the events appear to be "doggie" themed, our canine friends are helping to fun-draise for all the four-leggeds that come through our doors during the year. The cats would just rather stay home and cheer from a distance!
